I have been informed that When He Left, for which I was the director of photography, has been accepted into the Estes Park Film Festival in Colorado.
Due to an equipment failure, I don’t feel that this film represents my best work but I think you can still get an idea of what I am capable of. I am still happy that some of my work was deemed worthy of a film festival.
After more than a year in Austin, I have finally stumbled upon and participated in a zombie genre project. It was shot over the past two weekends in Boerne, TX at a creepy little shack, and at a house in SoCo. It was actually an advertisement for a Zombie Survival Kit, which are sold by the director of the project. It was great fun and I got to experiment with use of color in a similar way as I did in When He Left but to a greater extent.
It takes place at night I used blue to create a moon. Then I decided to use one of my party bulb CFLs. We just thought we would try a green one under the porch of the run down house from which the victim was escaping. It worked so well that I added green to all the scenes and we had an almost Scooby Doo atmosphere throughout the whole piece with green and blue.
I was really pleased to get to use my new Lowell Pro lighting kit and to work with Cheri Clemons and Rodney Barry as my gaffer and electrician/grip. I have worked with Rodney as a stills guy many times but he showed every bit as much skill as an electrician/grip. Always a pleasure to work with Cheri, as a DP in her own right, her execution of my lighting concept was flawless. I hope to have the advertisement or at least a few stills up asap and to add a few clips to my showreel.
